Tangomat

The NOMOS Tangomat 601 debuted in 2005 as the sapphire-back version of the automatic Tangomat, originally powered by the Epsilon movement. That calibre played an important role in NOMOS’ history, marking the brand’s move into in-house automatic movement production in 2005. The current specification uses the DUW 5001, while the reference retains the 38.3mm stainless steel case, white silver-plated dial, tempered blue hands, and Tangente-derived layout that define the Tangomat line. The stainless steel case measures 38.3mm in diameter, 8.3mm in height, and 48.0mm from lug to lug. It is fixed with six screws and fitted with sapphire crystal glass on the front and back. Current water resistance is rated at 5 atm, whereas earlier versions of this reference were rated to 30 meters. Compared with the Tangente, the Tangomat has a larger and slightly taller case, with more pronounced angular lugs and the additional depth needed for the automatic movement. The galvanized white silver-plated dial follows the familiar Tangente design language, with black Arabic numerals, baton hour markers, a railway minute track, and a small seconds display at 6 o’clock. The hands are made of steel and tempered blue, using a heat-treatment process that gives them their characteristic colour. Viewed from above, the watch remains close to the Tangente in layout, but its proportions and automatic construction place it within a distinct Tangomat format. Inside is the NOMOS DUW 5001, an in-house automatic movement that supersedes the Epsilon calibre used when this reference first appeared. It measures 4.3mm in height, has a diameter of 31.0mm, and offers a power reserve of up to 43 hours. In this version, the movement is visible through the sapphire crystal case back. The watch is fitted to a black Horween Genuine Shell Cordovan strap with a 20mm lug width.
