Tangente 38
Ref. 164
The NOMOS Tangente 38 164 is the sapphire-back version of the larger hand-wound Tangente, expanding the model’s familiar design to a 37.5mm case. Within the Tangente line, it retains the same core layout and manually wound construction as the 35mm model, but in a format with greater dial presence and a slightly longer lug-to-lug span. Its stainless steel case measures 37.5mm in diameter, 6.7mm in height, and 47.7mm lug to lug. The watch is fitted with sapphire crystal front and back and is water-resistant to 5 atm; earlier versions of this reference were rated to 3 atm. The straight lugs and slim side profile remain characteristic of Tangente, despite the increase in diameter over the standard model. The dial is galvanized and white silver-plated, with Arabic numerals, minute markers, and a recessed small-seconds register. Tempered blue steel hands complete the display. The blue colour of the hands is produced by heat treatment in the traditional manner. Inside is the NOMOS DUW 4001, a hand-wound in-house movement measuring 23.3mm in diameter and 2.6mm in height, with 17 jewels and a power reserve of up to 53 hours. Earlier versions of Tangente references in this family used Alpha or closely related variants of the same long-running movement architecture, itself historically rooted in the Peseux 7001 before being progressively reworked by NOMOS. In its current DUW 4001 form, it remains the brand’s core manually wound calibre. This reference is fitted on a black Horween Genuine Shell Cordovan strap with a 19mm lug width.
