TAG Heuer caliber TH81-01

The TAG Heuer Calibre TH81-01 is an automatic split-seconds chronograph movement. Developed in collaboration with Vaucher Manufacture Fleurier, the calibre represents TAG Heuer’s first rattrapante chronograph movement integrated into the Carrera collection. The movement operates at a frequency of 36,000 vibrations per hour (5 Hz) and incorporates a column-wheel-controlled chronograph with an additional split-seconds mechanism. The rattrapante function is actuated via a dedicated pusher integrated into the case band at 9 o’clock, allowing the measurement of intermediate times while the chronograph remains running. Timekeeping is regulated by a high-frequency balance, contributing to chronograph precision. Calibre TH81-01 consists of more than 350 components and offers a power reserve of approximately 65 hours with the chronograph disengaged, reduced to around 55 hours when the chronograph is in operation. The movement is constructed primarily from grade-5 titanium, resulting in a comparatively low overall mass despite the complexity of the split-seconds mechanism. The calibre is fully skeletonised and hand-finished. Decorative techniques include hand-applied anglage, black-polished steel components, and engraved surfaces. The bridges feature TAG Heuer’s engraved chequered-flag motif, while the oscillating weight is shaped as the TAG Heuer shield and finished with fine brushing and coloured detailing. The movement is designed for full visibility through a sapphire case back, with architectural elements arranged to emphasise depth and transparency.
