Pocket Watch Portrait of a Samura / Tokyo 2023

The Patek Philippe Pocket Watch 995/131G is a unique piece created for the 2023 Patek Philippe exhibition. This pocket watch displays several 'rare handcrafts' techniques; wood marquetry and enameling. Inspired by an old photograph of a samurai in armor, the back of this unique piece stands out as one of the most complex decorations in wood marquetry ever created by Patek Philippe. To reproduce the myriad details contained in the face and the costume on such a small surface, the marquetry maker cut out and assembled 800 tiny veneer parts and 200 inlays,
