Perpetual Calender 5236 Platinum / Grey

Ref. 5236P-011

The Patek Philippe Grand Complications 5236P-011 5236P-011 debuted in 2026 as a platinum execution of the manufacture’s in-line perpetual calendar, built around one of the brand’s most distinctive modern calendar displays. In this reference, Patek Philippe pairs the patented calendar mechanism with a silvery dial featuring a vertical satin finish and black-gradient rim, giving the watch a more restrained and monochromatic character than earlier blue-dial versions while keeping the emphasis on the unusual display architecture at 12 o’clock. Its case is crafted in fully polished platinum and measures 41.3 mm in diameter with a thickness of 11.07 mm. The overall profile remains relatively slim for a perpetual calendar, owing in part to the underlying movement construction, while the polished surfaces and smooth bezel preserve the formal case language associated with Patek Philippe’s grand complications. As is customary for many platinum references from the manufacture, the case is set with a brilliant-cut diamond at 6 o’clock. Water resistance is rated to 30 metres, and a sapphire crystal case back reveals the movement. The dial is organised around the in-line perpetual calendar display, with the day, date, and month shown together in a single large aperture at 12 o’clock. This arrangement gives the watch a different visual rhythm from the more traditional subdial-based perpetual calendar layouts commonly found in high watchmaking. The silvery base is finished with vertical satin brushing and framed by a black-gradient rim, while faceted baton-style applied hour markers and matching hands in charcoal grey white gold reinforce the linear and relatively pared-back appearance. Additional calendar information is presented through round apertures for the leap year and day/night indications, while the moon-phase display and small seconds are combined at 6 o’clock. Inside is the self-winding Patek Philippe calibre 31-260 PS QL, an ultra-thin movement developed to support the fully in-line perpetual calendar display. It consists of 503 parts, uses 55 jewels, and measures 34 mm in diameter with a thickness of 5.8 mm. The movement is wound by a platinum off-centre mini-rotor and operates at 28,800 semi-oscillations per hour. Its regulating organs include a Gyromax balance and Spiromax balance spring, while the power reserve ranges from a minimum of 38 hours to a maximum of 48 hours. The movement bears the Patek Philippe Seal and incorporates three patents relating to the innovations required for the in-line perpetual calendar mechanism. The watch is fitted with a charcoal grey composite strap with a fabric pattern and contrasting cream stitching, secured by a patented triple-blade fold-over clasp in platinum. That strap choice gives the 5236P-011 a slightly more contemporary and informal edge than a traditional alligator strap would have done, while still remaining within the broader dress-watch language of the case and dial. The result is a perpetual calendar that stands apart less through decorative complexity than through the clarity and novelty of its display system, combined here with a cooler, more understated platinum presentation.
