Speedmaster First Omega in Space The Met Edition

Ref. 311.32.40.30.01.002

The Speedmaster 'First Omega in Space' is a numbered, though not limited, edition of the Speedmaster. It is powered by the hand-wound caliber 1861 movement. Its design is inspired by the watch worn by astronaut Wally Shirra in 1962 as he orbited the earth during the "Sigma 7" mission. As such, it features a case without the (now-) signature sweeping lugs and protected pushers & crown. It is fitted with a sapphire crystal and a closed case-back. It features a 19mm leather strap with pin buckle. Ref. 31132403001002 is only available through the gift shop of the New York Metropolitan Museum of Art. It was introduced in 2019 in celebration of the 50th anniversary of the Apollo 11 moon landing and the 'Apollo's Muse : the Moon in the Age of Photography' exhibition. It comes with a special box, an extra NATO strap, and its back is engraved with a The Met logo.
