Speedmaster First Omega in Space Master Chronometer Stainless Steel / Blue-Grey

Ref. 310.32.40.50.06.001

The OMEGA Speedmaster First OMEGA in Space 310.32.40.50.06.001 was introduced in 2024 as a contemporary reinterpretation of the Speedmaster CK 2998, the reference worn by astronaut Walter “Wally” Schirra during the Sigma 7 mission on October 3, 1962. That flight marked the first occasion on which an OMEGA watch was worn in space, forming the historical foundation of this model. The watch is housed in a symmetrical 39.7 mm stainless-steel case with polished and brushed surfaces, reflecting the proportions and construction of the second-generation Speedmaster launched in 1959. A black aluminium bezel ring surrounds the dial and features a tachymeter scale with the characteristic dot over ninety. This version is fitted with a black leather strap made from grained calf leather, secured by a stainless-steel pin buckle. Beneath a hesalite-like sapphire crystal with internal anti-reflective treatment, the dial is CVD-coated in a grey-blue tone, replicating the appearance observed on certain CK 2998 examples produced during the 1960s. Applied hour markers and slender Alpha-style hour and minute hands are filled with vintage-coloured Super-LumiNova. The central chronograph seconds hand is white varnished to match the transferred markings. The chronograph displays a 30-minute recorder at 3 o’clock, a 12-hour recorder at 6 o’clock, and a small-seconds display at 9 o’clock. Vintage OMEGA logos appear on both the dial and the crown. The solid caseback features a Seahorse medallion and is engraved with “THE FIRST OMEGA IN SPACE” and “OCTOBER 3, 1962,” directly referencing the model’s historical significance. Powering the watch is the manually wound OMEGA Co-Axial Master Chronometer Calibre 3861, certified by METAS for precision, magnetic resistance, and performance. The movement offers a power reserve of approximately 50 hours and represents the modern evolution of the chronograph calibre architecture associated with early Speedmaster spaceflight history.
