Speedmaster First Omega in Space Master Chronometer Stainless Steel / Blue-Grey / Bracelet

Ref. 310.30.40.50.06.001

The OMEGA Speedmaster First OMEGA in Space 310.30.40.50.06.001 was introduced in 2024 as a modern reinterpretation of the Speedmaster CK 2998, the reference worn by astronaut Walter “Wally” Schirra during the Sigma 7 mission on October 3, 1962. That flight marked the first time an OMEGA watch was worn in space, establishing a direct historical link that continues to define this model’s identity. The watch is housed in a symmetrical 39.7 mm stainless-steel case with polished and brushed surfaces, reflecting the proportions and geometry of the second-generation Speedmaster introduced in 1959. It is fitted with a black aluminium bezel ring featuring a tachymeter scale with the characteristic dot over ninety. The watch is presented on a stainless-steel bracelet with flat links, incorporating OMEGA’s patented comfort-release adjustment system. Beneath a hesalite-like sapphire crystal with internal anti-reflective treatment, the dial is CVD-coated in a grey-blue tone, replicating the appearance seen on certain CK 2998 examples produced during the 1960s. Applied hour markers and the slender Alpha-style hour and minute hands are filled with vintage-coloured Super-LumiNova, while the central chronograph seconds hand is white varnished to match the transferred dial markings. The chronograph layout includes a 30-minute recorder at 3 o’clock, a 12-hour recorder at 6 o’clock, and a small-seconds display at 9 o’clock. Vintage OMEGA logos are used on both the dial and the crown. The solid caseback features a Seahorse medallion and is engraved with “THE FIRST OMEGA IN SPACE” and “OCTOBER 3, 1962,” directly referencing the model’s historical origin. Powering the watch is the manually wound OMEGA Co-Axial Master Chronometer Calibre 3861, certified by METAS for precision, magnetic resistance, and overall performance. The movement offers a power reserve of approximately 50 hours and represents the contemporary evolution of the chronograph calibre architecture associated with early Speedmaster spaceflight history.
