Portugieser Automatic 42 Stainless Steel / Year of the Horse
Ref. IW5017-09
The IWC Portugieser Automatic 42 IW5017-09 debuted in 2025 as a limited edition of 500 pieces created to mark the Year of the Horse. The watch features a stainless steel case measuring 42.4mm across and 13.0mm in height, framing a burgundy dial with gold-plated hands, Roman numerals, and applied markers. The dial layout follows the classic Portugieser Automatic design, with small seconds at 9 o’clock, a power reserve display at 3 o’clock, and a date window at 6 o’clock. Sapphire crystals front and back provide unobstructed views, while water resistance is rated at 5 bar. Inside, the 52011 powers the watch. This self-winding movement employs IWC’s Pellaton winding system with ceramic components, storing up to 168 hours of power reserve in twin barrels. Beating at a frequency of 28,800 vph (4 Hz) and set with 31 jewels, the calibre is visible through the display back, where its gold-plated rotor is crafted in the form of a galloping horse as a tribute to the Lunar New Year. The Portugieser Automatic 42 IW5017-09 was delivered with both a black alligator strap and an additional burgundy alligator strap, each fitted with a stainless steel folding clasp.
